Our newest kicker was asked by Mr. Bill Williams to help July 8th when the flight of American vets goes to Washington DC to view the Memorial.  This is quite an honor and Larry the Cable Guy has donated 70K towards this.  Kyle was very excited.  They left in the morning and come back that night.......Please Click on this OMAHA.COM News Video:    http://journalstar.com/media/videos/?mid=honorflight_070808 Kyle Rasmussen just called me.  He went on the veterans flight  to DC and said it was one of the most awesome experiences of his life.    See attached pic that is on Omaha.com today.  He told me that the youngest passenger was 80 and one of the guys was has been ill wanted to go very badly so they made sure he got to go.  He died 30 prior to landing back in Lincoln last night, but he got to see the Memorial....."Mama" Deborah Rasmussen.

Andrea Stine of Omaha was named the 2008 Mrs. Nebraska.

She is Kicker June Bauman's Niece.....Contestants competed in three categories: interview, swimsuit and evening gown. Stine, Mrs. Elkhorn, received a prize package worth more than $10,000 and will compete in the national Mrs. America Pageant Sept. 2 in Tucson, Ariz.  See attached link... http://www.vfwwebcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,1937.msg6928.html#msg6928
Stine, 28, and her husband, Grant, have two children, Ella and Barron. Runners-up were: Jennifer Hart of Elkhorn, Karalyn Hoefer of Friend, Lisa Grint of Sargent and Marlo Tomich of Omaha.

Elkhorn Woman Wins Mrs. Nebraska Title  Andrea Stine of Elkhorn was crowned Mrs. Nebraska 2008 Saturday night at Omaha’s Westside High School. Stine competed against 14 married women to bring home the title. Jennifer Hart of Elkhorn was named first runner-up.

 "The crowning was so surreal. When Jennifer and I were standing there waiting for the final announcement, I kept wondering if it really was happening,” Stine said. “When she was announced as the first runner-up, I literally went weak in the knees.”

 

As the new Mrs. Nebraska, Stine will go on to compete in the Mrs. America Pageant in Tucson, Ariz., on Sept. 2. Just as with the state pageant, contestants compete in three areas:  interview, swimsuit and evening gown. All contestants are married and involved in serving community causes and charities. She won a prize package in excess of $10,000.

 

Stine suffers from a lifelong hearing loss, and has been an advocate of the hearing impaired. She regularly volunteers at Boys Town National Research Hospital and also serves other community charities. This year, she will act as a spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Nebraska Chapter.

 

“I hope to look back on this year and see that I have made a tangible difference,” explained Stine. “If I can provide comfort or a smile to someone grappling with a difficult issue such as hearing loss or breast cancer, I will be grateful to have had the opportunity.”

 

Other runners-up included, Karalyn Hoefer of Friend, 2nd runner-up; Lisa Grint of Sargent, 3rd runner-up; and Marlo Tomich of Omaha, 4th runner-up.

LOOKING FOR SILVER TREASURE? RIVERBOAT DAYS…YANKTON, SD AUGUST 15, 16, 17

 

 

It is the 25th anniversary for the celebration and the theme is the “Silver Treasure”. The Country Kickers are going to be in on all the fun things that will be going on. We are again renting houses from Jeff of Midway Gulch. For those that have gone before and remember how nice the houses are, everything furnished except for the food and you!! There is going to be fireworks, rodeo’s, street dances, food, shopping, and of course a huge parade and some foot stomping country fun and dancing at the Big Red Party Barn!! There are tractors dancing and Brule will be playing, the Golden Knights will be jumping out of planes, and stunt airplanes will be a flying too. So don’t miss out the fun get your name down on the list, most all of the entertainment is free and you can get a group together and stay all in the same house, but for that to happen we need to have you sign-up today!! To get the price figured out we need to know how many people are coming, the more we have, the better the price!! I am going to list what I hope will give you a general idea of how the weekend is planned, but for it to be a really great time, let any of the people on the committee know or any officer. It is a fun time, but it is the people that make the memories!! So come and make some special memories in Yankton, SD!!

 FRIDAY   -   arrival will vary

§         6:30 meeting at JoDeans for supper (for those that want to, will have a list for you to signup on) then

            You can go to the Rodeo or down to the Riverfront, there will be a street dance and the vendors

§         10:00        fireworks on the riverfront, I will save as big a spot as I can for those that want to come.

Back to the houses for those that want to or you can stay down there, may have small get together at one of the houses after we get back. But remember the parade is earlyJ!!

SATURDAY

  • 9:30 parades begin; this is usually a very organized and almost always starts right on time will have to be gone by 8:30 depending upon our number in the line-up. After the parade there will be free time, eating, and browsing and doing your thing.
  • 2:00 picnic in the park by the houses (still in the planning stages) …chicken and all the good stuff to go with served after you work up an appetite by swimming, maybe a good couple games of volleyball and some just plan relaxing and chatting with friends and maybe making some new friendsJ.
  • 8:00 dancing at the Party Barn with DJ music.

SUNDAY:

  • 10:00 will be check out time, but we will have a get together brunch for all those that want to stay and talk about the weekend and have a little food to send you on you way. Don’t forget to stop by the riverfront on your way home and check out what is going to be going on for the day!!

All of the stuff that is listed here might be changed when we get closer, and find out how many people are signed up. 

So signup and let the officers or the committee know if you have questions or want to signup!! Signup deadline is getting close, a non-refundable deposit will also be required in July, but dollar amount can’t be decided until we know who how are coming.
